I AMA link to AVCHD files from Panasonic AG HMC40 and then Transcode in MC6.5.2. I usually film in 1080 60i or 720 60p and output to Blu-ray or let MC downconvert for DVD burning (use Avid DVD for burning/authoring).
When I transcode MC "selects" DNxHD145 no matter if I am editing 1080 60i or 720 60p and I just go with that "default" choice. However, as my projects get more complex and use many more clips I wonder if DNxHD145 is "overkill" and uses more computer resources/time without really improving quality of Blu-rays I burn? Is there some reason MC "defaults" to DNxHD145? Would DNxHD100 provide same quality for my Blu-ray burning as DNxHD145 and save a worthwhile amount of time and computer resources transcoding/editing/etc?
I have read several MC forum strings and Avid documents which provide a lot of excellent tables and data, but I haven't found a source yet that answers my questions from a practical standpoint. Might be one of those "it depends" situations, but given my format and output (Blu-ray) maybe I have at least reduced the variables.
Thank you, Dennis
