Recording Voice Over direct to timeline

Hello again,

I have job tomorrow and will be required to record the voice over from an actor, ideally i'd like to do the picture cut and have him narrate and then I can tweek and stretch his audio so it fits and works perfectly.

I am aware of the audio punch in tool which seems simple to use and I have tested it although the sound levels were very low, I know I can obviously use the EQ and Audio Tools later however I'd like to get opinions on "best practise' here?

I have also tried the Capture Tool and checked "enable edit to timeline' which brings up the splice-in and overwrite buttons but I can't seem to get it to work...the audio levels seemed better (looking at monitor levels) but nothing is captured either in the bin named or on the timeline...how do you get this to work??

I'm simply pressing the record button and speaking into a test mic...deck control is off and i'm using the day timecode generator...

Any thoughts please?!

Alex
