AMA vs import video levels Again! (Canon Dslr)

Hi,

I've been searching for what I'm experiencing on the forums, but can't find an explanation.

I'm working with Canon 60D footage, trying different ways to ingest the footage in MC 6. I noticed a strange behavior that I don't understand. As I understand it, importing with 709 levels tells Avid to leave the levels untouched and not remap anything. So does setting the AMA source settings Video levels to Do Not Modify.

Now I imported this clip using the old right-click Import method to 175x 709 levels. The specular highlight in the chair reads at 255 and some levels do go over 235.

When I link the same file through AMA with Do Not Modify, the specular highlight reads at 235 and everything is proportionally compressed.

Which makes me wonder 2 things:

A- Is the Canon Camera shooting RGB or 709?

B- Which method is the correct interpretation of the footage?

Thanks for the help.

Simon
