Hi All,

We have a Unity network with serious problems. It is a:

Avid Unity Media Network V5.1.3

Avid Unity Media engine with 16 x 500gb drives

2 Airspeeds

Q-Logic Fibre switch

Enterysis Ethernet switch

4 Fibre clients/20 Ethernet clients – All Mac Pro’s with MC5.5

The problem is network slowness/sluggishness and is throughout. Interestingly it is evident on the server terminal itself, so no surprise the whole network is affected. With no users on the network it is slow to load software/explorer file windows etc. Loading the Avid Administration software takes about 5 seconds and it does a visible screen draw when doing so. Getting the windows server to open a file explorer window can take up to 20 seconds.

We have done:

Server shutdown and reboot (which is slower than normal when saving media databases)

On local MacPro workstations Disk First Aid - Repair permissions

We have installed MacAffee anti-virus and are have scanned the drive for viruses – nothing. The MacAffee has now been disabled to prevent scanning.

We are look through our Maintenance schedules and checking we have done all items but would welcome any thoughts.

Cheers
