AMA seq needs linking to 4:1s offline rushes

Here it is... Deep breath!

We were handed a mac drive containing 200 hours of Canon xf media. Let's call this drive 'DS'

The director has stored all his material in folders dated at the time they were shot. This drive has been backed up and we have taken a copy of all the folders onto two separate drives so there is a backup of the backed up media. These drives are called "Media_A" and "Media_B"

Using the drive "DS" The editor has then built his project containing hundreds of bins using AMA he has access to all the rushes.

So far so good.

He then began cutting seqs using the AMA clips and immediately saw the error in his ways as AMA is not very smooth for editing.

My question is this. Using our copyies "Media_A" and "Media_B" of the original backup drive 'DS' can we use our other machines to transcode down to 4:1 while the edit continues using the original 'DS' AMA route. Then once the 2 media drives have finished transcoding we can mount the "Media_A" and "Media_B" drives and all the AMA cuts will link????

make sence?

thanks
