Hi all,

I'm looking to buy one of the new macbook pros as my old PC Laptop has finally gone in to meltdown. I looked at the qualified systems list and the only one that is mentioned is this one:

15-inch: 2.3GHz
with Retina display

Specifications

  • 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
  • 16GB 1600MHz memory
  • 512GB PCIe-based flash storage 1
  • Intel Iris Pro Graphics
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M
    with 2GB GDDR5 memory
  • Built-in battery (8 hours)2

This is retailing in the UK for £2199. However i was looking at the slightly lower model:

15-inch: 2.0GHz
with Retina display

Specifications

  • 2.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
  • 8GB 1600MHz memory
  • 256GB PCIe-based flash storage1
  • Intel Iris Pro Graphics

Retailing for £1699.

My thinking is:

I'll not be doing any really heavy duty work

I have access to the big HP edit suites at my work

I suppose I could always cut with lo-rez proxies and conform if I ever needed to deal with 4K stuff (not looking likely!)

And lastly, that £500 difference would buy me a lovely copy of MC7 and a new external HD

HOWEVER...it's not on the approved system list, so I still have a wee voice in my head saying "will it run, and should I be future proofing myself?"

I'm finding it difficult to make a decision as the £500 difference is an AWFUL LOT of money to me, but I don't want to buy something not suitable. Does anyone have any expaerience and/or advice?
