Repeated Frames on Quicktime Imports

Hi All,

I've been having a strange issue lately, for which I think I've found the reason but have yet to have find a solution.

I have a project that is 23.976 and have been supplied graphics for the project by the client. When imported, Avid moves the first frame of the video to the end of the master clip! I opened up the clip in Quicktime and according to the Inspector it is labelled as 24fps and not 23.976. I then imported this clip into a 30i project and it was perfectly fine.

Separately, we have another project that is 30i and have received a crop of Quicktimes that run the frame rate gamut from 29.97 straight through to 30fps (an anomally that occassionally happens when we receive QT's from clients and a problem for another day). When imported into Avid, certain clips work and others have a similar issue as the 24fps clips. However, unlike in the 23.976 project where the first frame is literally moved to the end, in the 30i project, it is simply a repeat of the first frame. Here is a breakdown of how those differing frame rates function in the 30i project:

29.97 - WORKS

29.98 - WORKS

29.99 - REPEATED FRAME AT END

30.00 - REPEATED FRAME AT END

Now, when these same files are imported into a 23.976 project, there are not issues.

Based on these two separate but similar instances, I can't help but to assume that Avid is not correctly interpreting the extremely slight frame difference of the clips in relation to the project.

As a solution, I've tried re-exporting the problem clips from Quicktime with the project frame rate but they problems persists upon import.

Any ideas?
