I'm new to more advanced codecs and needing some advice from the pros. My editing experience with Avid is solely with H.264 from Canon 5d mIII. I'm transferring standard 16mm footage with technicolor and their options for digital scan are 2k then providiing the DPX files, or uncompressed ProRes, or ProRes HQ. I somewhat understand the difference between each codec, but having never worked with them, I am unsure of the appropriate workflow for each. My intention is pretty simple editing with little to no effects work. I do want to colour correct with full license Resolve that I own. My typical workflow with H.264 is to AMA link - transcode to DNxHD 115 or less - do cut - uprez to 175 - AAF to Resolve - back to avid for finishing touches - output to squeeze. All of my outputs have been for web, but I want to output for cinema/festival usage with this scan from technicolor.
Specific clearifications: When I was told "uncompressed ProRez files" that does not mean they are RAW as you would get with a RED file...correct? in which case can I treat the codec with the same workflow I would use with the H264? Do I need a different AMA plugin for these files? and does this same workflow relate the same way with ProRes HQ?
Secondly, I'm very intimidated working with DPX files as I have only just started learning about them let alone work with them. is there a good online resource which can walk me through this workflow with the system and software I own? or will someone find the patients to explain a workflow that can work for this system?
Cheers
