New stuff forthcoming in their little NLE...

  • A new Track Select Backwards tool has been added. (now they have the full select left/right feature just like MC)

  • ‘Favorites’ can now be created and navigated to in the Media Browser. (now they have the same ability to make bin templates of all their FX just like MC)

  • More than one keyboard shortcut can be assigned to a single command. (now they have the same keyboard functionality as MC)

  • Users can export to AS11 content packages. (well, there's another MC feature)

  • Users can export to certain types of DCP packages. (there's something we've been asking for, for a long time)

  • A preference has been added to maintain audio pitch on scrub and shuttle. (I personally request this feature to Avid back in 2011.  Avid is now the only NLE that doesn't have it)

  • A Reverse Match Frame command has been added. (Another Avid first... now not so unique)

The point I'm trying to make is that Avid has really stagnated on new features in the last couple of years, and the things we have gotten are half baked (example: frameflex, J2K support without alpha, Alpha AMA link that does't work on ProRes, a broken 'Relink To AMA Files,'  to name a few).  All the while, the competition looks as if they're literally taking feature by feature from MC, even reading our feature requests and simply implementing them first.   This isn't some doom and gloom post, but I think a small wake-up call is warranted as the benefits of MC are slowing eroding.  Eventually the slope will pull even the most die-hard MC users away if there aren't faster improvements.  There are plenty of us around that want to help.  Consider this a friendly reminder of that fact.
