In an Online every shot has to make the edit. The idea is in the Offline every shot someone fell in love with. There can be from 600 - 1000 shots.
In Resolve 9, the “Media Pool” is vital to linking.
I use an EDL to pull the shots (selects) to the “Media Pool”. This is done in the “MEDIA” Suite. In the upper left corner is the Library/Directory area. Right click on a directory and I choose from the contextual menu “Add Folder and SubFolders Based on EDLs into Media Pool”.
This brings up: Title bar says “Select EDL files for splitting clips” window.
1) Select the EDL
2) Click open or double click the EDL
The “File Conform Frame Rate” window appears. Click OK
To link to the “Media Pool” import either an EDL or an AAF to a “Timeline” in the “Conform” Suite:
EDL - cross dissolves, freeze frames, basic linear speed change
AAF - Avid Image>Resize effects with keyframes
I take the following into consideration:
If my configuration settings were dead on, some shots might not load in to the “Media Pool” automatically using an EDL. Clips won't link from the timeline too!!
If someone started a shot at (11:59am) 23:59:59:23 and this shot continues, the Avid will roll to 00:00:00:00 (12:00am) in a 23.976 1080p project. Resolve 9 will roll to 24:00:00:00.
Using a simple text editor where it says hour 00 change to hour 24
My technique is to use an Avid EDL to automatically pull shots in to the “Media Pool” , similar to a source pull list I would give a vault, except this EDL is in A mode.
I then use this EDL (or AAF) and Import it to the “Timeline”
I hope this is helpful.
