We are currently migrating from Avid ISIS 5500 to Avid NEXIS. We had been monitoring ISIS using Nagios and a Windows monitoring agent (NSClient++), and would like to monitor NEXIS in an automated fasion as well to allow IT to be able to address system failures without having to wait on end users to detect the issue and report it. What monitoring options exist for Avid NEXIS other than manually eyeballing the Avid NEXIS Management Console and depending on email notifications? I found a post from March 2017 regarding collectd and SNMP possibly being implemented in the future, but could not find anything more recent. Thanks.

I have been cutting on my MacBook Pro. The HD got full at one point. I have now dealt with that issue and there is plenty of hd space. My sequence is corrupted though - it plays through to nearly the end and then it freezes every time. I get "SampleBufferDesc:DefineBufferAlignment() - target sample is entirely past EOF".

I have tried rebuildiung media databases, creating a new user, cutting my sequence into a new one, including just laying in the music first and then building on that, and opening my bin in a new project. Nothing works.

I've cut this video for my daughter's 18th and her birthday is on Tuesday!

Any advice anyone? Thank you.

Media Composer 2018.8 released 8/13/18

Avid is pleased to announce the release of Media Composer 2018.8.   

Location: This release is available from Avid Master Accounts, Application Manager, and the Avid Download Center (login and password required).  Note:  The Download Center goes live at 12:00 pm ET and the remaining components will follow shortly after.

Operating System Updates: The following lists the qualified Operating Systems. Depending upon your hardware the qualified Operating Systems are:

• Windows v7 64-bit SP1(Professional) and Windows v8.1 (Professional and Enterprise), Windows v10 64-bit (Professional, Creators, and Enterprise).

• Macintosh v10.10.5, 10.11.6, 10.12.6, 10.13.6 (new Mac OS version approved) 

New MacBooks and iMac’s: The new 2018 MacBook Pros and iMac’s do NOT currently work with MC 2018.7.  Engineering has already made a fix to address this problem in Media Composer 2018.8 and with this version, you can now launch Media Composer on the new  2018 Mac’s.   However, this is a “use at own risk” scenario as Avid has just received our 2018 Mac’s and have started qualification testing but not finished yet.  Once they have been qualified, you will be notified.

Manual approval of loading Kernel Extensions (KEXTs): With the release of Mac OS v10.13.x (High Sierra), Apple requires manual approval of loading Kernel Extensions (KEXTs). (For example Avid Nitris DX, BlackMagic, and AJA IO devices install Kernel Extensions.) At installation time, you should get a dialog saying that the KEXT was not loaded. You must go the “Security & Privacy” system preference and manually approve the KEXT. Keep the Security & Privacy pane open after you install the I/O device drivers so that you will see the notice that the driver has been blocked and press the “allow” button within 30 minutes of installing or the driver will be permanently blocked.

Avid DX Driver Separate Installer:  The Avid DX Driver is not automatically installed when you install the editing application. If you need to install the Avid DX Driver to work with your Avid IO device, you can install it separately.  The installer is located:

• (Mac) /Applications/Utilities/Avid Utilities

• (Windows) Program Files\Avid\Utilities\DXDrivers

Note:  For Windows systems, there is a Win7 driver and a Win10 driver in the Utilities folder. The Win7 driver works for both Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems.

Installers:   Previously, a separate installer was required for Media Composer | First. With this release, you have a single installer for Media Composer and Media Composer | First. Note: The option to run as Media Composer | First is now include in the Avid Media Composer Activation window.

AppMan 2018.8:  There is a new AppMan 2018.8.  This version supports a single installer for Media Composer and Media Composer | First. and resolves the following:

- Bug Number: AMPT-7739. Activating a Sibelius license deactivated the Media Composer dongle.

What’s New:  The following are new features in 2018.8

- Avid Generic Plug-In:  Avid continues working to remove dependencies on QuickTime libraries.
- Launching Media Composer | First:  There is a single installer for Media Composer and Media Composer | First
- Enhanced Correlation Tracker: You can select additional export options from Export to File.
- Exporting to XDCAM Change:  When exporting XDCAM OP1a, you select XDCAM through the Avid Media Processor.

- Bug Number: MCCET-2551. (Audio Mixer) In some instances, while stopping play to add volume effect to a clip, the fader slider would jump back. This did not happen if you were in Narrow Mixer mode.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2276. The editing application was slow to respond when changing audio mixer levels.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2500. Markers added in the Timeline did not always appear in the Marker Window.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2494. In some instances, the editing application might have crashed to a BreakPad window if you played back using the spacebar after adding markers from the keyboard.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2532. In some instances, performing a Find did not find all clips and sequences, in all bins in the project.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2489. 1080 50p (50 timebase) media in a 50i project was shifted by one frame.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2028. In some instances, linked XAVC S media using the Avid Generic Plugin did not display Timecode in the Start column.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2341. The List Tool change log was not correct. Comparing the same sequence with itself showed changes.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2524. In some instances, the position indicator (blue bar) was not in sync with sound and picture when using 3rd party I/O devices.

Add to my previous post that I am looking to buy a good strong computer that can handle a work with 4k video that will come 90% from Gh5 I was able to get a sample video from a friend that has Gh5

all I ask from you is that you download this file and try to do the following on your computer 

1. import it as a link and try to play it with full quality 

2. if this works then layer it on the timeline with 5 video layer and put a picture into picture effect on every layer and change the video size so that you can see all the layers when you play the video 

3. and if all that works smooth try to render at DNX-HR HQX Mxf and see if your CPU or CPUs get to 100%

now what I am hoping to get from this test is to see if an old Z820 or Z620 or Z440 or any pc with I7 or I9 can hanel this work. 

and if your pc was able to work with that file then please post your computer specification as for:

1.model number if this is a brand computer
2. Cpu model and version and if you have one or 2 CPUs
3. size of your RAM
4. video card model and RAM size
5. Hard disk model, type as for SSD and size

so that I will know what to order.

as I want to buy a used pc for this work as for budget reason still I want to buy one that will be able to do this work 

I was able to test it on a new I7 7800X with 32Gig or ram and Nvidia 1080Ti card and on that computer, I was able to do it all with no problem only when i get to the render part the cpu get to 100% 
and at just play the video with 5 layer it was on 60 ~ 70%

I'm being asked to supply a digital file from a Betacam SP tape. The requirement is IMX30 in an MXF wrapper with 30mbps CBR.

Looking at the capture resolutions available I see lots of MXF types including MPEG 30 MXF, is this the same as IMX 30?

We're currently running several installations of Media Composer 7.0 and where forced to test an MC Installation
on a new Hardware. The test went well, .. i was able to deactivate one of our Licenses and activating it on the new Host a view days ago.

Today i wanted to restore our old setting, so i tried to deactivate the License on the newer "Testinghost"
in order to activate it back on the Production-System.

But now, when i try deactivate the License in the "Avid License Control"-App, it tells me something
like "... Can't connect to the Activation-Server". Internet connection is OK (Writing this Post works so far ;).
My Question: Is there a Way to "offline" deactivate the License? Is it just a bad Day to do that?

I'm getting the message "can't be linked" in the Source Browser window.

Clips are good; they play fine in QT and import into Premiere Pro.

I have the CanonRaw and CanonXF plugins installed.

I have been doing some "limitations" camera tests on the GH5 (i, best exposure, ii, heavily over-exposed, iii, heavily underexposed, and iv, exposing for chroma key), and I am flummoxed to see where the camera's Vlog picture style mode is superior to its own Natural mode.  I have tried all sorts of combinations correcting in MC (eg., contrast pull first, or the LUT (Vlog_to_V709_forV35_ver100 (3D)) first, or then adding further LUTs and colour corrections on top, etc.) and while I might say that dynamic range seems a touch better when shooting Vlog when correctly exposed, at the extremes of exposures the then correcting in MC, in my view, has the camera's Natural mode seem just a tiny bit better. 

Is there a trick I am missing?  What conclusions should I infer from all this?  Is there another LUT to use that will superbly freshen up the footage without any filter look (which I am not keen on)?

I keep inadvertently closing my timeline and can't figure out how it's happinging.  I'm just clicking around editing, and then click on the top bar maybe and it disappears. Just the timeline window. I can't re-create it.  It's not minimizing, I know how to do that, it's closing.  Is there a certain set of keystrokes and clicks to close that window?

I have been using Izotype Ozone 5 for my mastering purposes and making voice-over more crispy etc. Does anyone have a good tip for good mastering tools, since I find that Ozone 8 is not working as smooth as Ozone 5 used to do with older version of MC. I do not want to start using ProTools, I just need a suitable plug in that works smoothly with MC 2018.5

I am creating paint effect in nested effects layer. But whenver I open tracker and there is at least one tracke point, it has huge white overlay covering most of the picture, making it hard to place my tracker point. Removing tracker point remove the white overlay but creating new tracker brings it back. 

There is no issue tracking on main track.

PLAYBACK ISSUES USING THIS PLUGIN, or even earlier 4.03 with Media Composer 2018.5 running on OS X Sierra. Traschcan with dual AMD FirePro D700 64GB ram


Fresh install of everything including OS. Media plays back fine in Premiere, VLC and Catalyst browse etc.. In fact if I simply rewrap the mxf clip with video container switcher avid will link and play it perfectly as well. Already sent support request to nablet. just wondering if any one else had this issue.

Avid reports 10 unavailable effects on a sequence that has been through multiple editors over a period of years.  My system lacks the MovingPicture plugin that created the effect.  So when I try to render the sequence, Avid crashes.  How can I locate and remove these effects?  Console reports their location with in and out timecodes, but there are no clips on that track at those locations.  But perhaps I'm reading it wrong.

Just bbought forcusrite scarlet, and I was happy to find there is protools first in the package. Protools was my first choice several years ago then i switched to cubase. It is good to be back to protools i think. I am really excited. 

After i installed everything and ilok authorization. I can't wait to open it. The problem is i can't go any futher than creating a project page, although it tells me i have zero projects, but at the same time, it continued to tell me i reach the maximum projects. I searched the internet for answers, I found the posts about this problem back to 2015 or even earlier. It is 2018 now, i still got this problem. I have to uninstall all of them. It is just a time waster. Finally when i want to unstall protools first itself, it is greyed out. I counldn't uninstall it. I am just amazed by this company! Good luck!

No change since last successful capture other than upgrade from MC 2018-3 to 2018-5.  Camera is Sony HVR-Z7U. Footage looks great on camera monitor. Now when i try to capture i get a pink bar under the capture windown and the image is inverse color.  Tried footage i have previously captured successfully and now get the same inverse color problem.  Have tried deleting and re-establishing deck configuration.  No change.  I am desperate for ideas to solve this problem.  Any suggestions appreciated.

We've found, and had confirmed, an issue with an AMA plugin w 2018.5 which is evidently only resolved with MC version 2018.8. However I see a number of reports of issues with the 2018.8 version. Before I download and attempt to install and test every version between our last version (8.9.4) and MC 2018.8 does anyone have any suggestions as to the most rock solid version in between?

I am using 2018.5 w/ Symphony and a Nitris DX.  I've always been able to select multiple drives when consolidating a sequence and selecting "Skip native media files already on target drive."  Using that trick, I can consolidate everything in the sequence that is on a local drive and isn't already on the Nexis workspaces.

Can anyone tell me if this is a new bug or a function that was taken away or what?  If it's not a bug and an intentional permanent change, any suggestions on how to achive the same goal?  The majority of the media for the sequence is across multiple Nexis workspaces.  I just want to add alternate takes to the sequence.

I find myself always bringing up the mixer for added clips and bringing up pull down menu to give it the same gain as the surrounding clips.

It would be cool if I could map "Set level on track - in/out" on keyboard without having to bring up the mixer and using mouse for pulldown menu.
