Hi,

Moving over from Macs and looking to build a hefty PC that in amongst other things will need to run Media Composer without issues. I am trying to decide between the Intel i9's and the AMD Ryzen 3950X or 24 core Threadripper. Has anyone got experience running MC on the AMD's CPU's and how do they perform?

 

Also looking for a GPU and am think of the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti over the more expensive Quadro RTX500 - will the GeForce be okay with MC?

 

Any advice on these specific CPUs bad GPU's will be very much appreciated!

I'm receiving this message upon loading Media Composer 7.0.2 via Editshare. When I load it from the desktop icon it works fine, however via Editshare when it gets to 'Initializing Import/Export' the error appears. I can only click ok & it dumps me back to the desktop. This has only occured since I upgraded to 7.0.2 this morning. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Editshare to no avail, unistalled/reinstalled MC 7.0.2, and even downgraded again to 7, all with no success. The message still appears.

 

Anyone have any thoughts?

folks,

 

recently upgraded for media composer 7 - 8.91.

 

The pc in question is networked and uses editshare connect.

 

I can connect to the network drives within edit share.. Project drive, rushes drive etc.

 

when avid has launched it gets to the select project option, when i then select P in avid (for projects)

(i dont want to edit on the local machine it fires up the following error message)

Exception: Structured Exception, ExceptionCode: 3221225477, ExceptionString: ACCESS_Violation, FaultAddress:0x000000007712f2a2, MiniDumpFilename:98391f85-f85-f2c-45b9-9011-f10b6e8276f6.dmp

and dumps me back to windows

do good folks have any ideas what could be causing this.

I have yet to try just editing on the local machine c: drive just to see if it will go into avid fully.

out of 18 machines this is the only one to be doing it.. the rest seem fine

Segment Preview button issue

I have two long multicam sequences in this project which I'm at the Color Correction stage.

In the 1st sequence (about 1h long) the "segment preview" button ("current monitor" of CC mode) stops doing anything for any clip past the 20min point; in the 2nd sequence (about 40 min long) the segment preview button doesn't do anything anywhere.

The "Play" button works just fine.

I have no clue what could cause this ? a setting somewhere ? a bug ?

Still doing basic titles in Avid Title Tool... In Media Composer you can set the title safe lines in the grid settings (with an option to choose the ST-20146 standard of 90%).  The Show Title Safe lines in Avid Title Tool are set to the older standard or titles at 80% and there doesn't see to be a way to change them.  Or is there??

I'm in a pickle, I have a video that is 7 minutes long with talking head and graphics, the audio is English. I also have a creole vo that is about 9.5 minutes long that needs to fit. I'm thinking I can slow the video down to fit the creole vo or perhaps figure out some sort of graphic that will extend the segments to accommodate the creole vo. Any other suggesations?

When I am recording guide VO, all previous 2018 versions of MC muted the audio when I clicked the speaker symbol above the timeline, with a red X through it. This version behaves differently and according to the manual by design. In software only mode it brings up Windows sound volume control, with the Ultrastudio 4K Mini it brings up the Desktop Video control panel, where there is no facility to completely mute the audio. But according to the manual it should still mute the hardware with an X. If this is by design and the manual has not been updated, I don't understand the reason or logic? You can cut the picture monitor with the blue icon on the timeline but not the audio - it doesn't make sense?

Am I missing something in settings, I've looked everywhere? I can install a monitor control but this was easy and useful.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me exactly what TC and EC on the timeline do?  I appreciate that TC means timecode; but what difference does it make to the timeline when I make an edit whether or not I include the source material TC?  Probably as I am not generally cutting for a professional post-house that I do not know.  But for future reference?

And what is good practice generally?

Getting this error (console report) when trying to export to AMA AS-11 UK HD Shim

FD to DFM conversion failed. Error: Required property 'descriptor.samplerate' has wrong format or missing in FD

I don't see any options in the shim to tell it sample rate.  Is there something else it's referring to?  

16 Audio tracks with silence on traks that don't have actual sound data. 48k 24bit project

Trks 1&2 = Stereo

Trks 5-10 = 5.1

All others = silence

When a CTMS client registers for channel notifications on a system that is configured with multiple CTC instances multiple notifications are received for each event. For example if there are 3 CTC instances and a story is deleted 3 deletion notifications are received. Is this intentional and if so is there any recommended approach to ignore the duplicates?

I having a playback issues with "ama" Prores4444 files with stereo and mono audiotracks?

I can only playback files if they are made with only mono channels.

Running Avid MC 2019.12.

Hi,

I've been testing the Blackmagic Raw AMA plug-in and so far been able to link and transcode some test media I've found on the web. The first issue I've hit is when trying to adjust the plug-in settings via source settings for linked clips. It will allow me to adjust individual clips but when I select several although the "apply to all" button appears it only applies it to the first clip.

Is anyone else using the bRAW plug-in with MC 2018.12? The readme says it's supported from 2019.x onwards so is anyone seeing this issue with MC 2019?

P.S. being a Scot it always makes me smile when I write braw plug-in.

My experience of MC 2019.12 is pretty stable except for one recurring error that crashes my system at least once a day.

I've been unable to pin down the exact cause but it seems to usually happen when scrubbing over clips with FrameFlex or Pan and Zoom effects applied. All my footage came in as UHD and I have the project knocked down to 1080p/25  

Is anyone experiencing the same and if so, any solutions? My currently solution is to force auto-save every 2mins so I don't lose everything once Media Composer goes into an unrecoverable crash

Hi,

 

I suppose it's quite a simple question, but I could not find any guides or themes regarding it (probably using the wrong keywords)...

Anyway, I've start building a project in which the sound-man have saved each take in a single file (instead of 3-4 separate files for each character+boom). So Avid brings (link) those files with single or double tracks instead of a track for each mic. I'm quite sure that the sound-man didn't mixed those tracks while recorded, so I suppose there's a setting in Avid telling it to combine those tracks (or maybe just not to separate them).

So is there a way to separate those tracks in Avid? And is it possible to do it if I've already transcoded the files or even started syncing or would I need to make the whole process all over again?

Hello . We have Isis 5500 (SD with failover) and Nexis system with SDA (2 controllers) connected to the Dell 4048-on. We need to replace the switch with a similar one. What is the correct switch replacement procedure? Is there any documentation about the switch replacement ?. Do I need to turn off everything or stop SD and Nexis SDA?

Would be grateful for the advice !

I recently transferred my Avid project from a Mac Computer to Windows on my Custom PC. 

I was running Avid Media Composer 8.9.3 (2017) on the Mac Computer, & now I'm running Avid Media Composer Ultimate 2019.12 on my PC. When I was initially working on the project in Avid on the Mac, I used 'source browser - AMA link' to input all of my audio & video files into the project. 

After opening & running my project in Avid on Windows, I've noticed all of the audio files in my bins & timeline are offline - the audio files are therefore not playing & highlighted in red colour on my timeline. 

All of the video files are playing as expected & the general layout of my bins & timeline hasn't been affected - I don't think any project files are missing. 

I'm a bit of an Avid newbie so I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to best relink all of my audio files.

i've made a home made avx plugin for blend modes - you can test it :) 

it's pretty simple and contains only pure reference maths.

it's available for WIN and MAC and probably MC 6+. - currently tested on 2018 and 2019 MC versions.

Hi,

How to do that PIP effect whereby your main image is, say, a large square in the screen while the background image is the same only kinda, say, much larger and slightly blown out?  (See attached.) 

Are there any variants also available?
