How do you find both original video & audio files that make up a synced clip?

Hi,

     I have a sync clip.  I can tell what video was used to make the sync clip based on the file name and source path column in the bin.  However, I can't seem to figure out how to find the name of the audio file used.  I must be missing something here -it seems like such a basic thing.

What I have:

MC 7.0.3, Avid DVD by Sonic, Squeeze.

Shot: 720P 25 fps

There is an option in Avid for sequence: Send to Disc -> Authoring.

I can send the sequence as Quick Time Reference to Avid DVD.

The program starting and I get white picture instead video I try to author.

If I try open Quick Time reference file by QT program it gives same white video.

By my opinion I should install Avid codecs for QuickTime.

The question is: How to do that and where to get it?

Cannot Export XDCAM MXF OP1a

I am trying to export a sequence as XDCAM MXF OP1a to our internal network drive location. 

Receives a message "XDCAM: Insufficient free space available".

video format: IMX 50

Audio Bit: 24 bits

Apsect ratio: 16:9

I use other export settings for QT and I am able to export the sequence OK to the same network drive location.

Have Media Composer Interplay edition with Symphony option 7.0.3

 

Any thoughts as to a setting or other issue I need to look at.

Video not playing back?

I was working for a guy doing a large amount of video editing, mixing AMA linked footage that was shot into DNxHD 185x and footage that was imported into 185x.

 

The last time I worked in the project everything played back fine, but now, with both the AMA and transcoded media, when I try to play something in the source window or on the timeline, AVID shows only the first frame, while playing the audio underneath it.

 

If I hold down the right arrow on the keyboard, the videro plays through in real time, no problem. However if I hit spacebar to play, the video shows only the first frame, until I press stop, at which point it jumps to the corrent end frame.

 

I don't think I've changed any settings in AVID (unles sit was accidental), does anyone know what might be causing this?

hi. i am having some issues here. i have a friend that is working on redcine x pro on a pc laptop and i am trying to transfer it to my mac to edit on avid. tried to transfer the clips on a memory stick and nothing. please help

limited number of upgrades?

Hi - I'm trying to upgrade 8 systems from mc5.5 to 6.5, but am having an issue with the web store. It's let me buy 3 upgrades on the first day, but isn't allowing me to buy any more. I remember having to buy my upgrades in batches before but this is just bad businnes. Please, take my money!

 

I've got a support case going on but I've been told: "I have received word that the limit of purchasing the same product on our online store is strictly set to 3. This means that there's no configuration or some sort that can let you purchase more than 3 thus leading us to conclusion that you won't be able to purchase the same product anymore though."

Again, please take my money! How can this be resolved?

Film project disadvantages / limitations when there is no film involved

Hi all,

I recently saw this excellent post on the 24p blog about using a film project for non-film camera based footage and was intrigued by the possibilities of sub-frame audio slipping; the lack of this feature in the normal video projects has always bugged me.

As outlined in the aforementioned blog post a disadvantage to using a film project for normal editing is the inability to trim past the start and ends of subclips, something that would probably slow me down as I like to use subclips a lot to make selects.

However, I did a little test this evening (in Avid v5.5) where I sync'd up some 1080p25 DSLR footage with externally recorded sound using the perf slip in a film project and then copied the bin with sync'd subclips over to a normal 1080p25 video project. I found that this retained the perf slipped audio syncing I had done and gave me back the ability to trim beyond the edges of subclips. So theoretically for a new project coming up I believe I could do all my transcoding and syncing in a film project and then copy the bins over and edit as normal in a video project.

Does anyone know of any disadvantages to working this way? I am going to do some more tests to make sure re-linking back to AMA clips after editing still works with clips created in a film project. Is there any vital metadata that isn't stored when you import/transcode clips in a film project compared to video?


What's the Easiest Way To Transfer All Media From One (any only one) Project (not just a sequence) To A New Drive?

Hi,

      This is one of those questions I've wondered about in the past and never really figured out a proper answer to.  

      I know how to consolidate one sequence to another drive.  However, how do you move an entire project (with hundreds of  different bins) to another drive?  

     I went searching around the net and found answers like this: http://planetsupport.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/quick-tip-avid-media-composer-media-tool.html , in which the fellow had to copy over his entire Avid MediaFiles folder for every single project on his drive and then use the media tool afterwards to delete material not used in his project.  This of course works, but is highly inefficient and time consuming.  

    Someone in one of the forums here recommended using Automatic Duck's media copy.  I will give this a look, but am reluctant to become reliant upon such a workflow as it's now a very old 3rd party solution.  It's age makes me nervous about it being able to pul off the job properly.

     How do others do such transfers?  I'm really surprised that in all the Avid books I've read and tutorials I've done, I've never come across the right answer.  I'm dying to get a definitive solution here.  Thanks.

Greetings,

I read through this information, but I still have some questions on how the program will work. By owning my current version 7 software without an ASC, should I wait until the next version release, purchase a standard ASC for $299 then upgrade or do I buy a $299 ASC first? Is there a number to call or is it too early to be concerned?

Audio Rubber Banding

Hi this old guy needs help again. I can not get CH 1 Audio to allow me to add key frames. I get the deadly "BING". I turn on clip gain on the track go to add key frame BING. Go to CH 2 do the same thing no problem works fine. I can add audio tracks but the only track that I can key frame on is 2. Tracks 1,3,4 can not add key frame "Bing" Stuck any ideas? Thanks

TC over SDI to the external monitor

Is it to possible to send MC Timecode over SDI to the external monitor ? It doesn't work for me.

As I read in earlier posts it is not possible.

Any changes in current MC version ?

Am I missing something?

BTW - I don't ask about TC burn-in effect.

Long lag when selecting 10+ min of material in timeline

I'm working on a company-owned, software-only Media Composer 7.0.3 workstation running OSX 10.7.5. For the most part I am loving the MC7 upgrade. However, I have been running into an issue which I know will be a huge time sink in a few weeks when I will need to work as quickly as possible. 

Basically there is a long lag of over 7 seconds whenever I lasso a large piece of the timeline to move it around. What happens is that I'll lasso the selection using the Smart Tool in Overwrite mode (it's the only Smart Tool I have enabled) and I will sit there for a while waiting for the selection to highlight before I can move it. Very annoying. I asked our lead AE about it and he made some good suggestions - don't have too many bins open, and don't enable Script View in the B-roll bins. I did that and there is no change. I additionally checked in System Preferences and saw that everything has been optimized for the best hardware performance (disabling screensavers, etc.)

I am out of ideas. While I'm at it, where did the "bin memory" percentage go?

Avid 7 - Background Services

Hi There,

I recently purchased Avid 7. I am liking the New Background services feature and have been converting files from my Gro Pro Hero 3 camera in the background and they convert perfectly for me to edit in the Avid application.

However, I recently look some video on my Canon 500D Camera and when I place the MOV files into the transfer folder I have created for the Go Pro. Nothing Happens. Ive tried creating a new folder with specific settings to convert MOV. 

Any suggestions? Should there be any reason why this should not be working?

XDCAM import problem

Hi,

I just got some XDcam material on an external HD.
Its folder structure is as following; PROAV/CLPR/C001/C001A01.mxf and so on.
I have the latest AMA drivers, and I have tried both AMA linking and regular import. Nothing works. Any idea?

Getting a file mob id from Interplay Production WS

When getting a file mob id from Interplay Production from the web services, make sure that you retrive the filemobid field, and not the name field.

For example, this is the correct field:

<InterplayURI>interplay://A51-WG6?filemobid=060a2b340101010101010f0013-000000-4fd6340eea6337e2-060e2b347f7f-2a80</InterplayURI>

Although the file mob "name" field will often have the same data as the "filemobid" field, there are some cases where the two do not match.

Mavericks 10.9.2

Well, in spite of my waiting for Mavericks compatibility.  Avid announced good to go.  I upgraded and found I could not install the current Avid.  Reason I think: Mavericks was 10.9.2. It sees a licence issue and there is, of course, no one to talk to at Avid without a service contract.  I cannot even figure out how to buy it.

I switched to FCP7 just as X came out.  And, returned to Avid (now on MACs) hoping for the best.  Beat me with a hammer. It could prove less painful.  Still trying to stay with Avid.  But, forced to use Adobe Premium Pro as I still wait for compatibility.

Currently, we have an access violation while passing videoPrecharge. We reproduce the same issue with the AMT sample app (stop after 18/19 frames). HD downsizing to SD with lanczos3

This would be a feature that is very welcome. Avid has no antialiasing so complex hd shots with many bricks or complex line. Will start to flicker. XDCAM, h264 etc does not matter.

Now i have to transcode the files first via TMPGEnc with lanczos3 or Streamclip with better frameblending/better downscaling.

Would be nice to have a checkbox with better downscaling.

 

I'm working with version 6.5.4.
