MC 7.0.2 keeps deleting last several comments in script view
I have a bin with lots of clips all shot from the same camera, same day. I have the bin in script view and have gone through each clip and took notes in the comment section. Each time I close MC and open it back up, the last 11 clips get their comment section deleted. This isn't the first time or project this has happened to me as well.

Can you access Avid Media files created on another laptop and edit?
Earlier this year I purchased a new laptop that was more compatible with the Avid Media Composer 7 Interplay software I purchased. When I uninstalled Avid on the old laptop and installed it on the new laptop, I saved the Avid Media Files so I could reedit or burn the file from the new laptop. Is this possible? If so, how do I do this? How do I access the files? Do I have to create a new project to access these files? Does anybody know what I can do?

Automatic drive switching
Dear Marianne,
Often, when MC is started up, it switches the media drive to an external hard drive.
If I don't realise and switch it back to the internal media drive, all media is imported and rendered to this drive. This means, one client will take another client’s footage causing a major drama.
Would it be possible to tell the system analyst, it is NOT HIS/HER DECISION to make a setting such as this default? If, for any reason there must be a choice to "switch to a random external drive" then PROVIDE A TICKBOX where people can set it as default. Else, IT IS MY, THE EDITOR'S DECISION IF AND WHEN I WANT TO SWITCH TO WHICH DRIVE.
Avid is forcing me to check, check again and re-check every settings over and over again. I am being forced to constantly manage the software as against creating the program.
This software is not helping any more but fighting me.

AMA Link 'Wrong Format' video. FOURCC not supported.
I know this has come up before in various guises but I have a new AMA link problem.
Trying to link to my large archive with predominantly Sony PMW350 footage
I've got the latest ama plugin and I'm running MC8.3
AMA autodetect recognises clips and clip audio but picture is 'Wrong Format'
Console tells me 'The FOURCC video code of mp4v is not natively supported'.
I've tried going through each of my (up to date) ama plugins manually with no luck. The only one that responds is quicktime folder which again only recognises audio.
I've linked to this footage before on MC7 so don;t understand whats going on here. Right now I'm having to go reformat
with sorenson squeeze which is hugely slow and cumbersome for what I need.
Any help gratefully recieved

"Close all other bins" command
A little option in Google Chrome which is very useful:
How about implementing a similar option for bins in Avid? Right click on a bin, "close all other bins". Preferably with the option to select several bins (to not close). Would be very useful for quickly tidying your workspace of all those pesky music and SFX bins without for example reloading your sequence or trying to remind yourself where you got to in a rushes bin!

MXF JPEG 2000 Import in MC 8.3.1
Hello All,
I am trying to import MXF JPEG 2000 clips in my MC 8.3.1 ,and did try with AMA link too, but with no success for now.
When looking to the media with Get Info, it reports an "unsupported video format/codec".
I did try this with MXF Op-1a as well as MXF Op-Atom, but that's the same.
Did anyone already try such import ? Because, if I am right, MC should support JPEG 2000 since version 6.5?

Hi everyone,
I'm working on Media Composer 7.0.3 on Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9. Things have been great until today I ran into this error (attached):
Exception: CM_INVALID_SUBID, subIDParam:2301
Can't seem to get rid of it. Pops up every now and then, and when it does I cannot exist the Avid safely. I have to force quit. I've read the few articles out there on this error and they all seem to point to corrupt media and/or rebuilding databases. Curious if anyone else has run into this.

Sequence Freezes MC
Hi, I have a few sequences in a project, that i have not opened in a while, that crash MC when they are opened. I am guessing that this is due to some FX that are not installed anymore. The reason I say this is that sequences without any fx open just fine.
Is there a way to open these sequences? I dont mind stripping the fx if that is even possible.

Error importing 5D/GoPro to MC 8.3.1: QT Wrapper and Serious Error!
Hi all - I'm having some issues that other have had in the past, but in searching the fourms I've not seem both errors at the same time, or either on MC8.3.1 Mac.
I'm trying to import .mov files shot on a Canon 5D Miii, and .mp4 file shot on GoPro. I have 100s of these, and when importing using drag/drop or right-click-Import, I might get one or two of the files to import, then the import stalls and after a few minutes I get one of the following messages:

I haven't had any issues importing either of these file types in the past, and I can't think of anything on my system that's changes which would affect this now. The only thing different now is that I'm tying to import a larger number of files at one time.
I've tried larger (100-150 file) imports. I've tried importing individual files. I've tried AMA linking and consolidating/transcoding. It's all hit or miss, but eventiually I get on of these errors. It seems like smaller files sizes (less than 500mb) have a better shot at being imported without erroring,
My first rou nd of importing, after several frustrating days I rana ll these files through FCPX to rewrap into new .mov files. This allowed me to import the rewrapped files into Avid, but I could only do 5-6 at a time. If I tried to import 10 or more, I'd get that same error again.
I'm really at a loss on this, is the fact that it's come out of the blue is blowing my mind. Absolutely no problems with these files in the past, including imports of 40-50 files at a time. I've gone back to MC8.2 and ghotten the same errors, so I rolled back up to 8.3.1. System specs below. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Live logging / real time logging
I've got hours of interviews I want to quickly and roughly transcribe myself, and my workflow has alwasy been:
1. load the clip into the source monitor
2. mark in and out on-the-fly using the keyboard
3. make a subclip
4. next to the subclip in the bin I type a quick description of what I've just heard, in the 'Comments' column
So my question is, there must be a quicker way of doing this? Can I type my description on-the-fly, while the clip is playing?
(A bit like in the old Media Logger application you could mark in and out and log on the fly, and then batch capture)
Any workflow tips gratefully appreciated...

ACPL GPU Acceleration
Hey all, I am running MC 8.3 and loving it, but for some time now I have been trying to get the command acplgpueffects to return an "on" answer instead of "off". I have modified the qualifiedgpuboards.txt to include "NVIDIA Corporation--GeForce GT 750M/PCIe/SSE2 : NVIDIA : 750M," but in the console window it shows my gpu board as Intel Graphics 4600, and when that is disabled in the device manager, it says that my board is " ."; in other words it isn't recognizing the NVIDIA Card as a GPU. It recognizes it for openGL, but not as a GPU. I would love to get this working if only to get it working, I don't know if it will help in any way, but it works for After Effects and speeds processing up immensely, so if anyone has any ideas as to how to get MC to recognize my card, that would be great.

my Audio Mixer Panel just reset itself and potted everything up
The faders are now all colored blue.
The whole thing has gone haywire.
I tried to reset it to defaults.
I guess this is operator error, but does anyone know how to make the audio mixer panel go back to normal?

Exporting as Op1a file creates superblack problems
I have seen this mentioned in some old threads: http://community.avid.com/forums/p/120683/695519.aspx but this is new to me. On MC v7.0.4 on PC
We have had to deliver to a QC house as Op1a XDCam50 files. Our final Avid masters are graded (mostly to safe levels) and then a Safe Colour Effect placed on top and then exported as Op1a files. These were sent off to the QC house and were consistently failing in small areas, mostly on black level and chroma errors.
On testing the files I found that clips that had some superblack in them which were being corrected by the Safe Colour Effect were then going superblack again in the Op1a export. This also happens if you do a mixdown to XDCam50.
If I export as AS11 AVC100 (which is what I wanted to do in the first place!) there is no problem.
Can any one tell me if this is a known problem? If it is an Avid problem or a QT problem?
I will deliver as AS11 from now on but this has caused us a lot of hassle and it would be good to know why.

JFIF encoding issues with AMT 2.11
Hello,
Something we are struggling with having now updated to SDK 2.11 from 2.10 is that we get an error message when encoding any JFIF resolutions. These worked just fine in SDK 2.10. It appears to work in SDK 2.12 which implies something has been fixed, but SDK 2.12 drops encoding of some formats so using that is not ideal.
Specifically when we call
CreateAmtFile using a destination directory, the input and output xml as specified in the spreadsheet (e.g. UNC_720_248_NTSC_2A.XML and JFIF_20_1_NTSC_2A.XML) and NULL and NULL as the final two parameters
we get AMT_COMPRESSION_FORMAT_NOT_SUPPORTED
If I revert the DLLs to those for SDK 2.10 we get an OK status returned instead.
As far as I can tell nothing has changed in the XML examples for the JFIF resolutions between these versions so I am mystified. The release notes for 2.11 suggest some tweaks to JFIF encoding but nothing is reflected in the example XML files so I can only assume that's internal fixes that don't concern an end user.
This call is ahead of transmission of any actual video and audio data. I've tried using the RAW_TO_AMT feature of the sample application with the same output XML file and that appears to run so perhaps a change has been made to what the JFIF codecs require as an input format and the spreadsheet has not been updated?
We're using the VC10x86 SDK. Any help would be gratefully received - is it just that JFIF encoding is busted in 2.11 or is there something I can do to make it work?

audiosuite crashes MC8.3.1
Hi,
I can apply an audiosuite effect to my clips on the timeline but if I click on the effect edit icon in the audioosuite window MC crashes with a segmentation fault. It doesn't seem to matter which effect it is suggesting there's a fundamental problem with audiosuite.
12core .01 Ghz Mac Pro 2010, 48GB ram OSX 10.8.5 MC 8.3.1 Symphony opton.
Any suggestions?

new bin creation - location
When creating a new bin, if I have a folder in the project window selected, I'd like the new bin to be placed inside that folder.
I work mostly on long-form docs with hundreds of bins and dozens of folders. It gets tiresome to always be dragging a newly created bin to some distant folder, especially since the Project window is so sluggish in its scrolling response when dragging a bin around.

Quicktime black levels change on same as source export?
Would love some insight here... I'm in MC 8.3.1 and am making exports from 2 different projects, one is 1080p23.976, one is 1080i59.94. Export is quicktime same as source, 709. Resulting files are fine out of the 29.97 project, but the 23.976 files turn out with different video levels... looking at bars the black levels are noticeably higher/washed out. I know that this has always been an issue with custom QT exports, but same as source? And why is it different in 2 different projects? (The export preset I'm using is the same...)
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

AMT Newby question
Hello,
I am testing AMT but when i try to run the "AMT_TEST_SCRIPT.BAT" out of the box (Only the paths are changed) i always get an error "The system cannot find the file specified". I've checked is all the files are available and accessible but can't find out what i am missing.. Is there something else that needs to be installed on my system?
I have MC version 7 installed, the Transfer manager client and Quicktime.
I've also tried compiling the sampleapp using VC2010 in 64bit but still the same problem.
reinstalled the vc10_amt_vcredist_x64.exe
Any help is highly appreciated.
