CORE CONSISTENCY CHECK FAILURE in MC 7.0.2

$

Hi,

I had my PC on MC 7.0.0 with Windows 8.0 Pro 64-bit.

A HDV project (1440x1080/50) project I am working on was working fine. I could preview all my clips no problem.

THEN I picked one of the clips, and got a CORE_CONSISTENCY_CHECK_FAILURE error appearing in the bottom left prevew screen.

If I go to pick any other clip than played fine before, I get the same message plus an error dialogue box saying:-

LongGOPDecodeState::Execute()
CONSISTENCY CHECK FAILURE !?! : [2]

If I restarted my PC and Avid and played the non-offending clips, they play fine. If I pick the 'buggy' clip, I get the error, and then the error occurs on all clips.

So, I deactivated Avid, upgraded to Windows 8.1 and then upgraded to Avid 7.0.2. Everything went fine.

However, The above scenario is STILL happening.

I look around other posts to see that Consolidating/Transcoding can help - tried consolidating, but that didn't help.. :(

Can anyone please help?!

Many thanks,

Ian

"The media services engine was unable to make a connection" - backround transcoding

Hello everybody,

I try to use the cool backround transcoding feature in MC 7.0.2 on a Win8 (not Win8.1) machine, but I always get the error "The media services engine was unable to make a connection" when I try to start a backround transcoding.

I was looking through the forum but it seems that none of the problems other users faced is the same with me: on my machine, I can start the "Avid Backround services manager" and then the arrows are green. And they also stay green. But whenever I try to use the backround mode, the same error comes up. Using the normal transcoding n foreground works.....

Is there anything special, a link I have to enter somewhere? So that the system makes a connection?

And some more information:

I was using a education version of media composer 6 and made the included 4 year free upgrade to MC7, but now it is a Media composer interplay edition. But I am running it as standalone on my machine. And I cannot use the Activation code in the license manager tool to just activate the regular media composer, because then the system says it is a interplay code..... I´m confused, I hope the backround transcoding also works with this version.

I would be very grateful if someone can help me with that.

Thank you very much and best regards,

Longhair

Background Services Not Starting

MC 7.0.2 w/ Symphony Option, Nitris DX

MacPro "Mid 2012" 12-core 2.66GHz CPU

Mac OS Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)

Avid Unity MediaNetwork 5.5.1 (17800) on ATTO Fibre Channel

Java 7 Update 45 installed

We were once able to use the background consolidate and transcode function in Media Composer 7; but, it has recently stopped working on two machines with similar set-ups.

We believe that this was working under 7.0.2; but, are not 100% sure. It did work on 7.0.0.

Non-Background consolidate and transcode functions work as expected.

When initiating a consolidate/transcode job in the background, .new clips are created in the bin; but, they never populate with media. I have tried consolidating to both Unity volumes and local SATA drives, to no avail.

The Avid Background Services menu bar item will turn from gray to green, then to yellow, then red.  A check of the Background Queue yields an empty browser window, both in Chrome and in Media Composer.

This occurs with both Avid MediaFiles and AMA-linked media.  Latest Panasonic, Sony, and Canon AMA plug-ins are installed.  If a card reader or external HDD is involved, lights indicating access never blink.

I have done a complete un-install / re-install of the Avid software twice.

Does any of this sound familliar, and does anyone have a suggestion of what we may do to restore Background Services?

Thanks!

-Jeff

Tutorials for Background Transcode?

Hi all, I've recently upgraded to Media Composer 7 on my mac, and was keen to try out background transcoding. I linked to a some AMA media, selected Consolidate/Transcode, and allowed it to run in the background.

Once this happened, Media Composer created offline versions of all the clips I wanted to transcode. I checked the background queue, which claimed that all the jobs had finished transcoding with errors. However, the created clips were still offline.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to relink these clips, or use Media Tool to find the clips the background transcode has created? I replicated the workflow with the standard foreground transcode, which created the new clip without issues, so it doesn't seem like a codec error, just either a workflow I haven't grokked or some complexities in how Avid handles this feature.

MC 6.0.4 vs MC 7 AMA

How much better is the performance of AMA in V7 compared to 6.0.4. I'm running 5 clips of ProRes HQ in a multicam group and the playback is struggling. The clips are sitting on two 1TB drives in RAID0 config.

AVID 7 AUDIO WAVEFORMS cached - hmmm?

I'm finding this less effective than the old non cached - they just disapear when you adjust the timeline scale.  Am I being impatient or is there a knack to get them to re-draw quicker - or do they need to cache for every possible timeline scale first?  I do have a 2hr rough stitch but thought this might have worked a lot better?

Also any way to choose where the caches are stored?  I SO dont want them on my (smallish) SSD which is also synced to Dropbox.

Cheers

MC 7.0.2 error capturing as uncompressed

$

Hi All

Using Avid Media Composer V7.0.2, whenever I try to capture an incoming HD signal in an uncompressed format, either 1:1 MXF or 1:1 10b MXF,  I get the following error message within 10 secs - 10 minutes.

"Assertion failed  : 0< = slot && slot < mNumSamps File: ..\..\src\RequestList.ccp, Line: 1068"

I occasionally get an "exception: ADM_RECFIFO_OVERRUN" error if I click on continue and keep the sequence file.
My supplier says the RAID is supposed to be capable of handling this.  If I choose something like DVCPro HD MXF, Media Composer seems to handle this ok.
If I record using the Blackmagic Media Express that works ok, although the playback is jerky.

I have a HP Z420 with Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme and 8TB Stardom SR4 external storage connected with eSATA via a Stardom SJ20x8 adapter. Win 7 Pro with SP1.
The hardware CPU usage is around 17% and about 40% of RAM used 6.5GB of 16GB.
I've removed the msmFMID and msmMMOB files in an attempt to rebuild the database but still no luck.

Complete newb to the Avid system. Can't say I've seen a worse program in terms of error handling.
Great that 7.0.2 has fixed 70 bugs, how about the other 30.

any ideas appreciated.  Cheers

Thanks in advance for taking time to look at this puzzle that I have!

I have a problem exporting my sequence in order to an online conform for DaVinci Resolve.

There are two main problems:

1)  I can’t get  all of the original media online to export an EDL

2)  The media that I do get online doesn’t have Time-code:

First a bit of background to the media and project:

·     It was shot on Red and the original R3D files were transcoded to Pro-Res files for editing on FCP

·     That editor fell through and I used Avid’s AMA tool to link to the pro-res files to edit Sound Sync Bins and a rough cut  sequence.

·     The rough cut went to a new editor, who found the AMA to clunky to work with and he re-transcoded my Sound Sync Sequences and Rough Cut to Avid DNxHD. (This created  .new.01 file extensions to most clips.)

·     The edit was completed with these files and it’s this that I’m having trouble exporting an EDL with Time-code from.

Problem No 1:

In order to get the Sequence to link back to the original Pro Res media, I did the following:

·     I took the DNxHD media offline by re-naming the Avid media files folder.

·     Right clicked the sequence and selected “relink”

·     Clicked link to: “Selected items in all open bins”

·     And only have the original Transcoded (Pro Res files) Bin open.

This created a new Sequence and lots BUT not all of the media came back online.

As an example I took a few clips from the sequence as a test here:

1) This is the offline clips before “relink” note .new.01 extension

Description: Macintosh HD:Users:liamleguillou:Desktop:relink test 1.png

3)  After Relink to the original Pro-res media some came online but not all. What’s strange is these clips were from the same shooting Mag and same scene etc. No obvious reason why one’s online and one isn’t.

Description: Macintosh HD:Users:liamleguillou:Desktop:relink test 2.png

Problem 2:

I decided to test the EDL export anyway, but it did not have ANY time-code info for any of the clips not just the offline ones?

This is what I did:

·     High-lighted the new sequence and clicked“output” in the menu bar

·     Selecting EDL and then the EDL manager menu pops up selecting – File – “Get current sequence”

The EDL manager then brings up the EDL info and this is where my main problem occurs. NONE of the clips have time-code info:

Description: Macintosh HD:Users:liamleguillou:Desktop:Screen Shot 2013-11-26 at 12.03.50 AM.png

One suggestion is that because my edited clips / sound sync clips were at one point re-transcoded from the Pro-res files to Avid DNxHD its somehow trying to Link “Forward” to that transcode rather than linking back to the original ProRes files.

So I’m kind of desperate now for some help…

1)  Why does some but not all media re-link

2)  Where on earth is the timecode!?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Liam.

Interplay ADMIN

Seens that it is possible.

Forcing AMA relink by manually adding tape names?

$

Working on a project that has passed through several post houses and MC versions. It was migrated from terrablock to local drives, then to ISIS/Interplay. Now it is uprez time, but large amounts of the source media was AMA'ed to .mov files with no metadata. Many of these files have no "Source File", "Source Path", "Disk Label", or "Tape" information. Additionally, some of the files have gone through a transcode and potentially multiple consolidations (yah, i know.)

In an interplay environment, what are the ramifications of adding tape names using the modify function to the source AMA clip and the .new clip to attempt to force a relink? Note that we have tried to relink using all available options, but have had no luck with the clips that fit this specific condition (no source ID information.)

It may also be worth mentioning that we have tried this in regular workgroup mode with AMA clips that have valid source info andwere unable to get ANY .new clips to relink to their AMA sources. We had to enable "workgroupoverride" in the console in order to get AMA relink to work at all. We have discovered that if we relink in standalone mode, then restart MC in workgroup mode and transcode the AMA linked reference clips, we can use Multirez/dynamic relink correctly.

currently at MC v6.5.3/v6.5.4, ISIS 2.1, IP Production v2.5 w/v2.7 indexers.

Audition feature

A nice FCP-X feature is the audition option.

A way MC could implement this would be using an audition effect.

Apply the effect to a clip and have an effect option that links it to alternative versions. You then have key commands to toggle so you can switch in and out a selection of takes.

Currently MC has no elegant way of doing this.

Missing Files?

Sorry if this is a repost, I tried searching and could not find anything.

I'm trying to find missing files. If I search my entire ISIS drive it shows up as having 664.52GB worth of MXF on the drive:

However, when I search in Interplay for all contents on that ISIS Workspace, I only get 446.84GB worth of material. Orphan Clips and Unchecked in Avid Assets are both empied out. I have full permission to see everything in my Workgroup, so I'm wondering where the extra files are. Any help would be greatly appreciated it.

I don't know if there is a way to go through the MXF files on that U: Drive and find out what they are linking to, but that would be super helpful as well.

Adrenaline driver issue

Hi to all

Last week, i used my old Xpress Pro 4.8(Academic version) on my Powermac G5. I know Xpress is only Mojo-compatible so i let the Adrenaline running. Surprisingly, Xpress Pro asked to update & power cycle the DNA. I gave the update process a try. Xpress then told its incompatible with this DNA.

The problem is when i try to use MC 5.5(non-academic license) on my Mac Pro, the Adrenaline firmware is not properly updated. MC 5.5 tells it has 'detected a power up error". Of course, restarting the DNA doesn' t solve the problem. All firewire ports are operating normally and i didn' t hook up other devices.

Now i find myself with an Adrenaline which is unusable(after a 2-month use). I searched the Avid forums for a way to reset the Adrenaline to a factory default state but i don' t have this "IORuntime" folder on my startup disc.

Does anyone know how i can reset this driver so it would be recognized by MC & then updated normally.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks))

Unreliable AMA to XDCAM nanoflash MXF media

$

I'm in a world of pain and currently transcoding XDCAM long GOP 50MBPS media recorded on a nanoflash to DNX using Sorenson (that crashes every time I load a new file to convert).

I've upgraded to Avid V7.0.2 and installed the latest XDCAM AMA V7 plugin - it had a good go once (in manual mode) and populated a bin and I could then play some files in the source monitor and timeline but as it was unreliable and died with 'consistency check' and Exception:Failed to get sample temporal offset from AMA Plugin - Avid Community errors. It bombed on a consolidate and transcode too.

Cunningly VLC player and Sony clip browser plays it all fine - so it aint the files...

I even dumped all the files in an MXF folder and tried to get Avid to database it but it threw up lots of MXF errors and I had to abandon that route that usually works with MXF files it likes.

What can I try else guys as I cant plain 'import' MXF media...

Cheers

Error in trim mode Exception: CM_INCOMPAT_TRACK_FORMATS, expected:0, got:3

I built a sequence then went to trim it and this error pops up. I have no idea why.

Exception: CM_INCOMPAT_TRACK_FORMATS, expected:0, got:3

The workaround is to load the bad sequence into the source then overwrite it onto a newly created sequence.

I thought I would put this up in case anybody else runs into this problem.

effects UI bug with Frameflex.

$

Hi All,

Can someone confirm something I see in MC7 with frameflex?

When AMA linking to media with a different aspect ratio as the project, MC automatically applies a frameflex effect when placing the media in the timeline. When opening the effect editor for a segment in the timeline source and record window change so to give the ability to edit the effect, in this case frameflex. So far so good.

But without making any changes you now click somewhere else in the timeline the previous clip that was selected has its frameflex effect undone and its set to its default original size.

I think it's not a bug of frameflex but of the effect editor UI. if you not close the effect editor the correct way MC leaves the effect editor open for that segment in the timeline which results in undoing its automatically applied effect. Is this a bug?
