Video is longer than Audio Avid 6 -Exception: Unsupported Resolution

I'm new to Avid and I Love it - so far....

I only have (1) issue...

WHen I lay the Audio first (no Video) - it plays fine.

However, when I add video; and the video clip is shorter in length than the Audio - it gives me a "Exception: Unsupported Resolution"

 

Yet, I'm watching tutorials with Audio files longer on the timeline than the video file - as they do a music viedo montage...

The only way around it, I need have my video footage track longer than my audio track....

Which kills my creativity and pacing - just a pain to work with.

Does anybody know how to address it? I would really appreciate it :) 


Rendering Effects on Sub Clips - MC7

We currently have a significant issue - trying to render effects on Sub Clips created in MC7 - workflow detailed below:

Hours of footage recorded on Samurai Blade SSDs creates big DNxHD120 QTs.  We link to these via AMA in MC7

We then create Sub Clips and consolidate these to an external Hard Drive at DNxHD120 - we then have these clips on the Hard Drive to edit with.

In MC6.5 we can then add an effect (overlaying a QT graphic with alpha channel on V2) and render it - it shows as rendered and plays no problem.

In MC7 we can play all ther footage and have no issues until it comes to the render.  Avid actually goes through all the normal processes of rendering but the clip remains unrendered on the timeline and will not play properly.  If we plug the drive into MC6.5 the timeline shows that the effects are rendered and they play no problem.

This is the case on both two MC7 Laptops running MC7.0.2

Other than re-install we have gone through every other process - new project, new user, new settings, deleted databases, deleted MCState file, site settings, site attributes and project settings.

We can do a video mixdown - this creates the layers in one track no problem, so play out will be possible.  But this is not a workable option for actually editing and not being able to see our effects play properly.

So - is this really the case that MC6.5.4 wil render the effects on subclips but MC7 will not...?

Any thoughts please let us know....

Merge segment colour corrections

Hi

 

Generally don't use the Merge Colour Correction function in the grading tool much, but just finished a job where I was using it constantly.  All relational CCs carried over without problem except for Segment corrections - the tickbox was always greyed out.  If you could tick it (!) I would expect any Segment CC to be merged to the rec seq, where the Avid sees a shot containing exactly the same frame as one in a source seq, and where that frame had a Segment CC on the source seq.

 

What am I missing?  Under what cirumstances is the Segment CC option in the Merge Corrections NOT greyed out?

Hi,

I'm need of some help!!

I am working on a sports tv production and we are recording a full day's worth of match action onto solid state drives using an Atomos Samurai Blade. We are recording Dnx 120 Quicktimes with timecode from the HD-SDI source. Each master clip is approx 2 hours long. Throughout the day we log the bits of action we need by timecode and type them into Avid using the the log function in the capture tool. The idea then is to batch import the clips, so that we only end up with the logged clips and not the huge quicktimes. This process works fine when we use XDCAM discs instead of quicktimes.

The issue I'm having is that when I batch import it takes in the duration of the logged clip from the first frame of the master quicktime. For example, if I log a clip with the timecode 10:01:20:00 to 10:02:20:00 then it will import two minutes but from the start timecode of the master quicktime. So not the portion of the clip that I need.

What I'm trying to figure out is whether the problem lies in the metadata of the recorded quicktime. Even though it is recording embedded timecode and we are logging the correct timecode, does Avid just not see it?

If it is the metadata is there any way around it? We log about 100 clips per day so simply AMA linking the master, going to the timecode, clipping it up and transcoding it would be far too lengthy a process!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! The alternative is to go back to tape and play in all the clips.....yawn.

Vanishing Timecode window

I like to have the Timecode window up with a few lines of useful info. I carefully save my Workspaces so that the TC window appears when I want it. But . . . I use my MacBook Pro with and without an external monitor and sometimes connected to a projector for teaching so I have different user profiles for each setup. Whenever I change my setup, the TC window goes away, even if I select a previously saved Workspace. I have to open it, position it and resave the Workspace. Wassup?

Changing Media Formats

Hello!

I was previously an FCP user and am very happy to make the switch to AVID where i'm finding at first i'm always frustrated, and then figure out that AVID does everything the better way, and I'm just not used to it :P

I'm having some trouble down-rezzing some titles that were made at DNxHD 115. I'd like to change them to 36, however, when I do this in one bin using the "recreate title media" - I notice that it doesn't effect all my other sequences which are basically just older cuts and all linking to the same files. I found this out the stupid way because I deleted all the 115 media and happily recreated them in 36 - only to go to another sequence and see a whole bunch of files offline and I couldn't reconnect them in any way.

Anyone know a smart and quick workflow for this?

we recently ran into a problem with a client wanting a .MXF-file in SD. However, we are having trouble exporting this from MC7. Does anybody have any idea how this can be fixed, or if this is even at all possible anymore?

Ability to bi-pass individual filters in an effects stack

Some third party filters have a Bi-pass feature while most native filters do not. It would be a nice general feature to be able to turn on/off each filter in the stack (as in Premiere or AE). No doubt this has been requested before. 

msmMMOB.mdb file doesn't exist?!

I can't find my msmMMOB.mdb file. It is not in the Avid_MediaFiles folder where my msmFMID.pmr file is. I have a feeling this may be causing my error message, "unsupported resolution" whenever I have filler in my timeline. Any help is appreciated! I've been trying to fix this for hours and would just try uninstaling but I can't even do that. AVID is awful sometimes.

any chance were gonna see this optimized with 3rd prty solutions? seems like the only happy people are using AJA boxes and Avid's own. 

 

Now version 6.5.2, announced in 6.0 and still doesnt work right. Please test the trim thouroughly especially with caps lock on. Please test color correction mode. This is where its worst. Please check out segment mode too, a bit sticky there. 

 

I and others are probably sound like broken records at this point but a little clarity, and a little, we know were working on itevery once in a while helps. Theres currently 2 threads on the main page with no answer from anyone at avid at all for both blackmagic and matrox solutions. 

 

 

 

Audio Scrubbing Activated By Interface Button, NOT Capslock

I'm sure this has been suggested before but surely it would be preferable to have audio scrubbing activated using an interface button above the timeline rather than needing to have capslock on.  I find it quite annoying when switching between applications and forget I have capslock on, then start typing only to have to delete it BECAUSE IT'S ALL IN CAPS FOR NO REASON!  And please note this should be a button above the timeline that is easily accessible, not hidden in a settings menu as it's likely something users will want to turn on/off regularly.  Thank you!

Audio wave files won't import

I'm trying to import audio wave files and I keep getting the error "invalid file name".  I've used these wave files in previous 

Avid MC projects.  I've double checked my import settings, specifically "Autodetect WAV files" and I still get this error message.

Dongle doesn't work MC 7.0.2

So I bought the new Macbook Pro and I know that Mavericks isn't supported yet. But I still managed to get MC 7.0.2 running. But I can't get my dongle to work. Right now I choosed trial for 30 days so that I could get going with my work, but I need to solve the dongle issue on this computer. My dongle works on my old macbook air and on my PC workstation, but on my new macbook pro it says that my activation isn't valid. Is this a mavericks issue or how do I fix it?

Hello Avid world! 

Project details: iMac, Avid 7, 8GB RAM, MXF clips from a Sony F55 AMA'd using the Sony XDCAM plugin v. 3.11, transcoded to 14:1, project is 23.98... (am I leaving anything out?)

I was multigrouping 2 video tracks w/ audio stems as I have done on MC 5 & 6 every week for years. Last night was my first time multigrouping in MC7. I was in 1080, AMA'd clips, set tape names, fliped back to NTSC to transcode, sunc the master timeline, did my add edits, made sub clips w/ Aux24 time code. Once sub clips were done I always sort the bin by Name/Tape/Aux24 in that order, highlight all aud & vid subclips, then hit multigroup. Multigroup'd by Aux24. A few dozen groups plus the multigroup showed up. When I double clicked on the multigroup to load it into the source monitor I got this error:

MonPane::SetComposition(): Internal error occurred trying to load composition into the monitor. See the console for more information.

When I went to the console for more information, it listed all my subclips and... I hate to say this but I won't be able to tell you further details until about 8:45pm when I'm back in front of the system. I'll update this post with that information as soon as I can.

This error did NOT occurr when I multigrouped just one group of clips at a time (2 video + 1 audio clip). However, when I load that group into the source monitor I can only see one of the cameras playing at a time. When I pause it splits back into the two banks. 

I was horrified to discover an error that wasn't showing up on Google or in a forum. Please help if you can!

Also, please let me know if I can clarify any details (again, I'll update the rest of the console info later tonight.) Thank you thank you thank you.


Working with Apple FCP Uncompressed Footage.

Hi,

I just received some footage that has a codec of Apple FCP Uncompressed 10-Bit 4:2:2, 1920 x 1080.  Of course, the clip(s) don't open in Avid MC 7.0.  I'm wondering what format/codec I should transcode the footage to using either QuickTime 7 or MPEG Streamclip. The footage was shot on a Sony F3 and I'm cutting it at 23.98 in Avid MC 7.0.  I'm planning to cut the film at XDCAM 50bit and then up-rezing to DNXHD 175.

Fixing skin imperfections in Avid MC (BCC 8 filters?)

Hi, I have a problem trying to fix a footage on which a girl didn't use a good make up and one can see a pimple which doesn't look attractive at all :)

 

I was trying a few BCC effects but none worked for me but a BCC Pixel Fixer. A downside - it doesn't have a motion tracker function in the effect, so when the head moves - fixing stops. Is there any way to remove pimples with this or similar tool?

Crackling audio from InterPlay 7 using DeckLink Studio 2

We are talking about machine #1: This machine was designed for HD streaming into a broadcasting server but we plan to use it for editing and post. There is an audio problem that I cannot figure out the fix for. I have a work-around but I need to fix this. With the levels set at between -14dB and 0dB there is what I can only describe as the sound of digial clipping. It is a crackling sound at the top yet it is clean at levels below -14dB. Am I missing something? I read in the forum where someone had what appeared to be a similar issue and he said he changed his cables from unbalanced to balanced. I did the same... $128 for two 6ft cables. When that didn't work for me I decided I better ask. This could be a very expensive trial and error situation. I need to avoid that. I came out of the DeckLink's four analog audio outputs into the MX200. I went back into the DeckLink's four analog inputs from the MX200. I used an electic tester to test my older cables before we move to this new location and got rid of all problem cables. The cables to the Fostexs are balanced, brand new. Settings... I have absolutely no information to go on as far as changing the configuration in MC of the DeckLink so if that's the issue I am clueless. Any takers?
