Maybe I didn't use the right words to describe the problem on the subject line. However, this is what I've been trying to do and only failed.
I started my project with AMA. The initial workstation was fast and I didn't have any problem. For some reason, I have to keep working on it but need to work from my laptop, which is not so fast, and the whole footage is on my small external HD(WD My Passprt Studio) connected to my laptop through Firewire 2.
I relinked AMA files and it seems that AVID is having hard time to read the files fast enough. I get a lot of pause and skipping, all those red lines on timeline. I tried to consolidate them, but only got the error message saying something about "foreign compression." Now, I am trying to transcode them. But my question is that how I link/connect new transcoded files with clips that are already edited into the timeline, which I did with AMA files.
This all might sound silly but I am new to AVID and this is just mysterious to me somehow.
