Hi all,
I've landed my first job as an assist after having been a post PA for about a year and a half. Over that time I learned how to ingest both HD and SD footage, basic Unity management, exports, etc.
I was also in charge of grouping online show content and field footage that came in. For the most part this was really easy because the field cameramen on my last show were diligent about jam-syncing their cameras before a shoot. All I had to do was simply multigroup my master clips and make sure that playback was in sync and cameras were in their corresponding split monitor.
Show footage was always synced, and if field footage was not, I usually would give clips in points and group that way. However our editors prefer that field footage was together in a single multigroup. Doing this would give me trouble if timecodes for media did not match. One of our editors pointed me to this thread:

He explained that this is how groups should be done always, to make sure that everything is synced correctly with matching timecode. I studied and tried as hard as I could to get it down, but for some reason flub up my in playback. There was a video on YouTube that I found that really helped by actually showing me the process step-by-step. Are there any tips you guys could have that would simplify things? I feel like until I have someone sit and hold my hand through this method, I won't have it nailed perfectly.
When I'm creating my stacks it appears that my Aux 1 timecodes match and everything plays back in sync. However some clips will be off at certain times. Is this attributed to not have my auxillary timecode correct, or are my clips on my sync map not matched?
For those of you that have this method down perfectly, what do you suggest to get better at it? Are there any classes that you recommend for getting the hang of this? I practice as much as i can, but I tend to be at a loss since I'm on my own if something goes awry. Any help is much appreciated!
