NEMFileWriter has detected upstream pipe stall

Since updating to Media Composer 8.9.0 and now 8.9.1 I have noticed that we are getting more upstream pipe stall errors. Mostly when transcoding RED R3D media. RED Epic, RED One and Dragon media. 

We are running mid 2012 MacPros, 2 x 2.4 GHz 6 core, 28GB RAM. Mac OSX 10.11.6. Nitris DX hardware.

This is occuring on 2 different workstations, a third with Avid DNxIO harware does not give the error.

The files are stored on a MacMini file server and are transcoding at DNxHD185x to an Editshare storage system. 

I have tested the transfer rate to the network drives, we are getting read/write 300MB/Sec from the MacMini and read/write 800+ MB/Sec from Editshare with no obvious interruptions.

Similar sized Quicktime files transcode without a problem.

Storing the files locally and trancoding doesn't help neither does transcoding to a local drive.

If I transcode in the background, while it is much slower we do not get the error.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Weird Animatte bug in 8.6.5

If I do anything in animatte and save while the composer window is active, the Avid consistently hangs and I have to force quit.  If I select the effect editor window before saving, it consistently doesn't crash.

Playback Issue in Green Timeline Setting 8.9.1

Hey all,

I've been living in 7.0.x world and recently upgraded to 8.9.1 and found an issue I'm hoping someone has resolved. When I have the Green quality selected in the timeline I get a small stutter at the start of playing any clip from source or record window. After pressing play a second later a frame or two is dropped and then the media plays correctly. Once playback is stopped or pasued, the behavior repeats when anything is played again. There are no yellow or red marks on the timeline and this occurs when media is on an external drive or on the internal SSD. The audio plays continously over the stutter. The media is dnx36 at true 24 and I'm using a mojo dx through a thunderbolt adapter on an i7 Imac to playback to a client monitor at true 24p. The stutter does not happen in the green/yellow setting and I never saw it on any version of Media Composer 7.

Anyone seen this before or have an idea of how to resolve it? I can work on my own in lower quality but will need something better when working with others.

Audio Mixer freezing up MC system at level adjusting

Hello peeps!

I'm having a major problem with the Audio Mixer. I'm working on a tv show at a medium sized post house so upgrading Avid won't be an option for a long time. 

When I try to change the level of any external audio track on the mixer the Avid freezes for 10-30 seconds. If I leave the Avid unattended during the freezes it does not recover until I return and close the sequence or try to save which will solve the freeze after about 10-30 seconds. After this time Avid renders, saves or does whatever I ordered it to do during the "lag". Playback does not work and moving the timeline marker is super choppy. Closing the sequence seems to end the "lag freeze" but can be slow. After this the Audio mixer works for a while but If I wait a couple of minutes and then try to adjust again it happens again. This really messes with my flow and steals time from the production that we do not have. I had the same problem with this system 5 months ago and it probably haven't been upgraded since. EDIT: It seems to be getting worse when now. . . Closing the sequence doesn't work anymore

Audio: (probably from a zoom) 14 channels in an Avid "group", 48000 Hz, 24bit, 

OS X El Capitan
iMac 27" late 2013
3,5 GHz Intel Core i7
32 GB 1600 MHz DDr3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048

The audio seems to be routed through the monitor with a thunderbolt attached UltraStudio Mini Monitor from Black Magic to the Big Knob.

Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this?

"Set level On Track In/Out doesn't work!

Hello everyone, I just had a problem on Avid.

I wanted to change the gain on multiple audio tracks using the function "Set level on track In/out but i don't know why it doesn't work. The procedure that I run is:

1. mark the area of the segments on different tracks i want to adjust in my timeline.

2. park with the postion indicator of one of them and adjust the gain

3. Fast menu Set level on track in/out

I noticed that the tool work only on one track. I mean, i selected two tracks, A1 and A2 the segments which were on A1 received the gain but the segments on A2 (even if they are within of the marked area) don't receive it.

I hope I have been clear enought. Thank you guys!!

Hey just wondering if anyone customizes their settings when exporting from squeeze. I just use the preset for youtube but was wondering if there were any tweaks that would improve output. 


Error by CreateShotlist (AMT)

I'd like to make shotlist. however when I set creatshotlist,error is returned.
Am i doing wrong way?

We try to make shotlist using 2 clip.

 

1.  Set parameter to CreateShotlist

 CreateShotlist parameter which we set

   DestinationFolderURI     Current Interplay Folder Path

   ShotName                 "123"

   StartTimecode            "00:00:00:00"

   ShotlistElements         Set 2 Masterclip information

                               (Masterclip information is gotten from Inteplay)

 

2.  When we call CreateShotlist using above parameter, following error is returned.

 

 Code          "OTHER_ERROR"

 Details       "An unexpected error occurred creating shotlist, null."

 InterplayURI  "interplay://198.51.119.43/Catalogs/Panasonic/"

 Message       "An uncategorized error has occurred"

 

Is there any wrong setting?

and if you know good way(example) for creating shotlist. Let us know.

BUMP - Set default bin view...

Seems a lot of posts asking for this and i never really thought about it but today i have really wanted this feature.  How hard can it be? 

I want Avid to open a bin with the custom bin view of my choosing, every time I open it.  Simple. 

Appologies if this has been fixed, I'm still on 4.0.5 but i couldn't find any posts confirming a change so I'm gonna go ahead and ask for it again.

Anyone know if it's possible two work with two desktops in the same laptop with AMC using win10?

I mean working with one monitor and switching desktops (one will be source/record edit, and  the other for bin).

Going to be receiving countless hours of footage from an offsite producer for a documentary.  What's the best method to allow them to roughly log the footage?  Am I able to export a tab file of the bin with thumbnails for them to log, then re-import into MC?

MC First Media Creation/Storage?

I just installed MC First, and I'm looking for the best way to have my media handled. I've got the computer's hard drive but I also have a 2TB External Drive I'd like to use for the AvidMediaFiles. Does anyone know how to set it up so that I'm not clogging up the internal drive with Avid files?

relink AMA clips

Have some AMA clips that is offline. Creating a new bin and link them again, but the clips in the origin bin do not get linked again. Is there any other method to do this?

GH5 4K files will NOT transcode. Constant Errors.

I can link to GH5 files and they show up in my timeline and they will play (not very well, but I can see them).  So, that's something. But anytime I try to take that linked file and transcode it, Avid simply says, "nope! here's some error codes about my pipeline!"  

Needless to say, my faith in Avid as an editing platform is not strong.  GH5 4K files are something that every NLE that charges money should be able to use and handle very, very well. 

Any tips to make this train roll? Premiere (yet again) seems to have much, much stronger technology in this area. 

I'm using .mov files at 150mb/sec. 4K.  Incredibly common these days - nothing fancy at all. 


MC8 Diary

The first thing noticed is that MC5 is a new beast.

Here are some AVCHD files to try.

The first 3 files are mts.

Because MC5 is capable of importing AVCHD files.

Update:

1) The import is slow but the files are coming fine into MC.

2) NTSC clips can't be imported into a PAL project as MC detects the framerate and stops you.

3) Once come into MC they play fantastic.

-  Cuando tu configuración regional estaba en alemán, español o italiano, varios cuadros de diálogo de Media Composer mostrarban texto cortado. Avid ha realizado mejoras al mostrar estos idiomas para que el texto se muestre correctamente. Además, una serie de diálogos ahora incluyen tooltips (sugerencias), de herramientas en el idioma apropiado. Avid seguirá mejorando esta funcionalidad en versiones subsiguientes.

-  En versiones anteriores ciertos clips de DVCPro no podían ser conectados con Link (vinculados). Ahora ya pueden vincularse.

-  Si cambiaste el nombre de la cinta de un clip, el código de tiempo cambiaba por el número de cuadros de pre-charge .

-  La configuración no se aplicaba al margen izquierdo de un nuevo script.

-  Cuando se deshabilitaba "Interpolate Position" en Script Settings, los scripts se importaban con Interpolate Position activado.

-   (Mac) When exporting EDL using “To several files,” V1 track files were not created.

-  You might have received an “Assertion failed” error when trying to export an empty sequence to XDCam.

-  (Mac) Performing a background render ignored Source Settings LUT. Fixed in Media Composer v8.9

-  You might have corrupted output in the record monitor when you opened the Effect Editor of a rolling title.

-  (Mac) The application would crash when opening Effect Mode on clips with a TV Noise Horiz effect.

-  (Mac) The editing application would crash while opening Effect Mode of an Animated Marquee title.

-   Importing two tracks increased the clip duration by 1 frame.

-  Changing local clip colors did not save if that was the only change you made.

-  In some instances after performing a match frame, shift clicking to select a range of clips in the bin did not select the clips.

-  When an AudioSuite rendered effect was removed from the sequence, you could not close the plug-in window.

-  (Japanese locale) Sequences with names that included a CR (carriage return) or LF (linefeed) displayed as offline in Interplay Access. With this release, newly created sequences will remove any CR or LF from the name. For older sequences, you can manually rename the sequence name to remove CR or LF.

-  Es posible que haya recibido errores “Assertion Failed: minVBVLevel <= maxVBVLevel” al realizar un mixdown de medios XDCAM.  

Workaround: habilita la opción "Re-encode for XDCAM bitstream compliance" en el cuadro de diálogo Mixdown  de Video.

 

-  When in the Source Browser, linking to an XAVC Long GOP volume did not work properly. This has been fixed. The latest nablet-Sony XDCAM plug-in is required for XAVC Long GOP volume support.

 

Known Limitations:  The following are known limitations in this release. 

 

-  When working with HiRes monitors, if you are in Frame View, playing back a thumbnail is not in the correct position while playing in bin.

 

-  Occasionally, when working with media with effects or media where space, time or color adapters were rendered during transcode or video mixdown, you might see artifacts during playback or export. 
*** Workaround: Go to the Render Settings dialog and choose Disable GPU effects.

 

-  While working in the Script Window, text operations (cut/copy/paste/delete/editing) can only be done in edit mode. See “Editing a Script” in the Help.

 

-  When working with Panasonic LongG media, you might receive an “SFPlayConsumer Timeout” error if audio waveforms are enabled. 
*** Workaround: Turn off audio waveforms.

 

-  Multicam editing with Panasonic LongG media is not supported with this release

 

-  Currently, when working with LongG media, you might see dropped frames when editing 4 streams. This might occur when playing from a single stream to multiple streams (and from multiple streams back to a single stream). The dropped frames usually display around the edit point (transition to a different stream).

 

ReadMe:  The ReadMe is attached.  If Nora needs to make any additional changes before launch tomorrow, she will alert me and we will repost. For now this version is what is expected to be posted to the Media Composer 8.x Documentation page on the Knowledge Base.

 

Whats New Document:  The What’s New Document is attached to this Community Alert.   This version  is expected to be posted to the Media Composer 8.x Documentation page on the Knowledge Base at launch tomorrow.

 

How Customers will obtain the Media Composer v8.9:   The latest update to Media Composer is now available in My Avid Master Accounts, the Download Center and AppMan if all goes well.  

 

1.  Customers who have already installed the latest version of Media Composer will be notified of the availability of the v8.9 upgrade via the AppMan. The Apps tab will also provide a link to download and install the update when desired.

2.  New customers who purchase Media Composer on or after August 3rd, 2017 will receive this v8.9 update in their Avid Master Account <http://www.avid.com/account>.

3.  Customers on current valid Upgrade & Support plans can download the Media Composer v8.9 and either update from their Avid Master Account  or the Avid Download Center (login and password required.) after launch.

4.  Customers NOT on a current Upgrade & Support contract that wish to upgrade to Media Composer v8.9 must purchase a new Subscription or Perpetual License.

Looking for a low cost solution and wondered if folks here are using this card with MC 8.9.x (and Resolve 14). Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks. 

** HIGH SIERRA: Download, but DON'T INSTALL **

On September 26th, Apple released macOS High Sierra (10.13.0). At this time, it is not supported by Avid and should not be installed on any Avid workstation.

HOWEVER, once Apple releases 10.13.1, the base version of High Sierra will no longer be available. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that all Avid users who intend to upgrade at some point download High Sierra from the App Store, but don't install it. There will be an file in your Application folder called "Install High Sierra" which you can keep until needed.

When Avid does qualify High Sierra, you are able to install the base version, then download whatever "Combo" updater required that will get you to an approved OS. But if 10.13.1 is released the day Avid qualifies 10.13.0, you won't be able to get the base version unless you've already downloaded it.

So, as I always recommend when new OSes come out, DOWNLOAD...BUT DON'T INSTALL (yet).

Changes in Media Composer | First:

-  Adjusting Audio Waveform Cache. The editing application saves cached waveforms for projects. This allows the waveform to draw faster the next time you open the project. With this release, you can adjust the memory used for  audio waveform cache.   See the ReadMe for details.

Fixed in Media Composer | First:  The following have been fixed in Media Composer v8.9.2

  • Bug Number: MCCET-2029. You might have seen flashing on Mac Book Pro Retina systems when applying an Animatte, Blur or Spot Color effect.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-1978. Adaptive deinterlacing is an additional processing option for Timewarp and Motion Adapter effects. You might have received an “exception” error when enabling the Adaptive Deinterlace Source option in the Motion Effect Editor.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-1958. After promoting a motion effect, you might have received an Exception error when you desynchronized footage and then clicked Undo.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-1981. After a batch re-import, a consolidated subclip and new master clip playback from the original master clip rather than the mark-in point of the subclip.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-1993. If you were connected to a Sony PDW-U1 XDCAM device, the Source Browser was very slow to display thumbnails.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-1913. You might have received “Core_Consistency” errors in the Source Monitor if you change the Timeline video quality to either Full Quality 8 or 10 bit for DNxHR HQX clips.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-8182. The green dot on the clip was missing after you applied a relationship mode color correction.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-8047. (HiRes monitors) In some instances, when drawing shapes with the Blur or Animatte effect, the image would appear reversed (negative).
  • Bug Number: MCCET-1999. You received a “Path not found” error when trying to access a shortcut network location in the Source Browser.

Known Limitations:  The following 2 limitations have been identified.

 

  • Bug Number: MCDEV-7748. This release does not currently support linking or importing AVCHD with compressed AC3 audio.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-7725. Disregard references in the help for publishing directly to FaceBook. This will be provided in a future release. 

FWIW this release downloaded and installed without issues for me here using the Avid Aopplication Manager on an older MacPro with OS 10.10.5. (replacing my working version of 8.9)
