Licensing Error Code: 6

Hi,

I am currently creating a Hard Drive image with Avid Media Composer v8.3 for an Apple Mac lab. Mac OSX 10.9.5.

We have 40 new floating licenses running on a Windows 2008 Server.

When I initially installed the software last week and ran Media Composer I saved the license server address in the Avid Application Manager as recommended without activating. Avid Media Composer ran fine. However, this week I am unable to save the server address, I get an error code: 6. I have tried deleting the license files in library/application support/Avid/Licenses/ and the Application Manager allows me to reset the server but I still can't get past the licensing except by using the trial option. I have also tried repairing permissions, and checked the permissions on the license folder, but everything appears fine. Any suggestions?

The was a critical error initializing the licensing engine.

Error Code: 6

Please contact Avid customer support.

Application can't continue work and will be terminated.

output to HDCAM-SR 444 from NitrisDX causes error message

Hi Everyone

I'm recording to HDCAM-SR dual link 444 from an RGB project, Symphony 6.0.3 and getting 

an error message on the deck VPID Color Space mismatch. Has anyone else come across this?

To Boris or not to Boris? That is the question.

BCC is no longer part of the Avid suite and the new Boris pricing scheme is not attractive.   Sooner or later my BCC 8 will not work with future MC upgrades--already it's not "offically" supported with MC 8.3.   I'm trying to decide if my money and time are better spent learning another program?   I'm seriously leaning toward After Effects and letting Boris expire when it no longer works with MC. 

I'd like to hear from forum members who have either upgraded BCC or jumped ship, the pros and cons of staying with Boris, or what other software they've migrated to?   Thanks!

Source Setting Color adapter auto applied to H.264 AMA link

Hi,

I had an editor AMA link a group of H.264 files, which when transcoded, appeared on the timeline with green dots suggesting that an effect had been applied. I traced the effect back to the Souce Settings for the AMA links and found that a REC709Fullrange Color adapter had been automatically applied to all the clips. This obviously had carried across to the transcoded clips.

I tried this on a couple of other suites and got the same results. It only seems to happen on H.264 files so far. Has anyone else seen this?

I've got a large number of inexperienced users who could be caught out by this, so is there any way to turn it off globally. I know I can remove it from the clips before transcoding but is there any way to prevent it being applied automatically.

I'm on MC 8.3.

Identifying clips in the timeline with LUT's applied

Is there a way to reveal all the clips in a timeline that have LUT's applied? For instance is there an effect icon that can be activated?

Clarification on MC 8.3 and Westmere Mac Pro?

Preparing to install our upgrade from MC7 to 8.3.  I see there is a performance notice regarding the "dual 6-core westmere" mac pro.  We have a SINGLE 6-core westmere.  Is the problem with the "westmere-ness" of it, or only a problem with the dual 6-core configuration?  Any word from someone in the know, or running the 2010 vintage hex-core mac pro with 8.3?

I would like to say Many Thanks to Cosmin Saceanu in Tech Support, who was able to finally resolve a problem with not being able to deactivate my Media Composer 8.3 license so that I could activate it on my laptop.  He spent several hours in trouble shooting this issue, and was finally able to fix it. 

He was a pleasure to work with, and his efforts are greatly appreciated.

New Blue Titler Pro Two ..??

MC 8.3 Application Manager lists New Blue Titler Pro Two as "current" (annual subscription mode)

Apply NB titles onto time line -  "timed out and watermarked " purchase  now and approx $500.00

So apparently "current " is not current,  so apparently if you want it it is not included in the offer

So I'm just confused maybe, is it an entitlement and I'm missing something, or is it a nudge-nudge

to purchase . 

I put the question to New Blue  for clarification and the response is basically "try Avid"

I thought I had New Blue and also BCC with MC 7.xxx guess that's another subject

 

Maybe New Blue Titler Pro Two is the Titler Pro when you don't have a Titler

Size returned by GetFileDetails WS function

Hi

 

When call Assets/GetFileDetails on a master clip, the size returned for all media file seems to be wrong.

 

- The size seems always return on Kb unit ?

- This is wrong when i compare it in the windows properties tab.

For example:

A media file have a size of 49201152 Kb according to WS.

49201152*1024 = 50381979648 bytes

When display the size under windows i get:

Size = 50 381 980 257 bytes

Size on disk = 50 383 028 224 bytes

 

How can i get the size on disk returned for a "stat" function by using GetFileDetails ?

Error: sfplayconsumer execute timeout

Hi there, apologies if this is in the wrong place. I've been searching for a couple of hours now and found no solution that helped.

 

I'm working on MC5 on a HZ400 with 6GB ram, 64 bit Windows 7 connected to a Nitris DX. I'm ingesting Alexa footage by link to AMA then transcode to DNX36 then moving to my editors machine, which is the same spec.

These files play back no problem on my system, but now and again when she scrubs through the footage in the record montior the error  - sfplayconsumer execute timeout - appears on a black screen and certain parts of the clip just will not display.

 

I've tried restarting, turning off fast scrub, deleting the databases, transferring the footage that works fine on my system to hers again, changed the project format and none of that helped.

 

Does anyone have any idea what to try next?

Hi everyone.

I have been working as an editor on Avid for 10 years now and I am looking for one or several books to keep my knowledge up to date and improve my skills. Actually, I am also interested in teaching editing in French schools (I'm French BTW) as I wish to diversify my horizons in my job as an editor.

So, I am looking for some concrete stuff other than the great, wonderful but chaotic Internet database: books.

Here is what I found when I looked on the Internet (well, it turns out you need it anyway...) and I wanted your advice to buy at least one of them, or other ones that I could not find:

MXF OP1a export...4 tracks audio

Network toying with idea of digital delivery, so they are asking for an OP1a MXF in the XDCAM 50 codec, but with only 4 tracks of audio.  Every export I do results in 8.  I found this post:

But even switching to 24bit, I have 8 tracks of audio.  How do I keep it to 4 only?

DISK_DIR_NOT_FOUND with Avid MediaFiles.txt trick

Hi

 

I am trying to use the old trick of creating an Avid MediaFiles.txt file, and removing the .txt extension, to stop Avid creating media to drives on which I don't want media created.

Some drives and partitions have worked a treat but some drives give me the DISK_DIR_NOT_FOUND error on an endless repeat.  It is definitely the Avid MediaFiles file causing the error as deleting the file or unmounting the drive solves the issue.

 

Any help would be gratefully received.

Transcoded Media

Hi, I have a simple question.

Can transcoded clips be loaded onto an external hard drive which I can then work on it at home? Or is the transcoded media always linked to the original HD media?

In other words, do they have to load the transcoded clips and the original HD media onto an external drive in order for me to work with it?

Pan control problem

I have a track that has one short audio clip that is panned slightly to the right. For some reason I cant adjust it anymore after upgrading to the current MC version. Underneath the pan knob in the Audio Mixer it has R42 in green. What ever I do I cannot adjust this. Any ideas?

just a general question for the lone wolf guys, not accual prices,so not to one up someone just want to know if i'm to high or to low

Ok here's the job. video 2hr's or so, once a week store footage and after all all the customers, well they fuigar out what they want, then you create a tralier for a subcription base youtube feed and then provide the footage for one or more of the subjects in the tralier and you've got a 6 month reel to chose

how much for the shoot, editing time, storgage.

Nudge clip shortcut broken?

Hey everyone.  I'm using MC 7.0 on Mac OS 10.8.5.  I'm having a weird situation where the nudge clip shortcut is only working if I'm nudging to the left.

I select the clip with the smart tool (red segment mode).  Comma will move clip 1 fr to left, M will move 10 fr.  But period and slash don't move it at all.  Is anyone else having this problem?

I've checked my keyboard settings and I've not remapped those keys to anything different.  They're still set at the default trim 1 fr, 10 fr.

Selling one of my Licenses - How to?

I own several Avid Licenses. Actually more than I need, so I was planning on selling some.

These Licenses are bound to my Avid Master account. Can I transfer one to a separate account

and give this account to the new owner? What steps do I need to take, if I want to sell one of these licenses?

I'd appreciate some quick help on this, because I might also upgrade before selling the license ;)

Slow and choppy playback on 8.3.0

Hi

I got some really painful choppy playback on our new AVID setup. We are using a NaStar server, where I got some material converted to DNxHD36.

When I play it will sometime display this message:

 

Exception caught in APlayer::Play - Exception: SFPlayConsumer::Execute TIMEOUT

and also this in the console:

ERROR: VDM3BOBVideoOut::Cleanup() - BOB has not displayed frame after 2000 ms! (enabled = true)

Can anybody tell me what to do?
